Who I am:

Hey there, I’m Teresa. I’ve been a trainer for 10 years now and have been resistance training on my own for 18 years. When programming my workouts, I prioritize the awareness of our posture, positional strength, and integrated movements (meaning, two or more movements are performed at once; it’s the best way to train your body to respond to exercise, as well as to help with accident prevention).  I’m a firm believer in the notion that we must master the fundamentals of movement before we push to our limits. Our life should be an ongoing strive toward optimal physical health; it’s one of the greatest ways we can stay happy and functional.  I think the equipment provided in most gyms is supplemental, rather than fundamental, and a body that is limited by one training methodology will be limited in its movement.

My “Why”:
I am a fitness educator. I am committed to broadening the scope of strength and conditioning training methodologies. Having personally been burned by the somehow widely accepted spirit of overtraining (i.e. no pain, no gain!), I’ve spent the last 7 years reprogramming how my own body moves.  I overcame a debilitating hip injury as a result of this ideology and have learned that intentionality is SO much more important than intensity when training.  This realization inspired a new appreciation of human movement as an artform, or what I like to call “fitness flow.”  While I’ve been shaped by the fundamentals of movement science, it means more that my training style is guided by the feel and flow of the body.

Being fit is more than simply achieving a certain look or training status. It is a decision and a lifetime commitment to actively pursuing optimal physical health. Every day I use my personal fitness journey as a testimony to motivate others to not only get fit but to stay that way for the rest of their life!

And, in case you were wondering, my favorite meal is corned beef and cabbage, with cornbread and lima beans… omg yum!
